Good practice works. It delivers better company and project performance. The supporting evidence is compelling:
The project benchmarking database operated by the Construction Industry Institute in the US, and to which we have input a significant number of projects
Benchmarking conducted by the “Rethinking Construction” movement in the U.K
Project benchmarking conducted by a number of private consultancies.
Established in 1990, ECI is a unique community developing and disseminating good practice. Member companies and their experienced professionals come together to share knowledge of best practice to improve their competitiveness and support innovation. The results of 15 years speak for themselves – over 60 organisations from the private and public sectors representing the whole spectrum of the construction industry across Europe are now members of ECI. Member companies meet at conferences, workshops, seminars and master classes organised by ECI and over 70 major reports dealing with project best practice have been produced, helping innovative companies to move ahead.
The Implementation Support Service (ISS)
One of the most valuable ways for good practice to be driven forward in your company is to have an ECI expert to work closely with you.
ISS makes available a team of expert practitioners to help companies to improve their organisational and/or project capability by producing better business performance through the implementation of ECI-derived good practice.
Services offered include:
Evaluation of a customer’s performance organisationally or on a specific project against ECI good practice (gap analysis)
Facilitation of workshops, eg partnering/alliancing, risk management, whole life value
Training courses
Master classes
Assistance in Project development, including business case/option evaluation
Project implementation strategy
Post project reviews
In-project ( management and process) reviews - “Project Health Checks”
These services are available in combination or individually to both ECI members and to non-member companies.
The panel
The implementation service is provided by a group of professionals with extensive experience in the development and application of ECI good practices drawn from their time working with a variety of major clients, contractors and consultants.
Case studies:
AstraZeneca Engineering
AstraZeneca Engineering asked ECI to conduct a review of their project alliance arrangements with a range of supply chain partners. These have been in place for several years. The review was conducted through a series of interviews with AstraZeneca staff and some of their key alliance partners using questionnaires developed from ECI’s Long-term Partnering Handbook. The work was carried out by an ECI advisor and gave AstraZeneca Engineering an independent report on how well their project alliance process was working
CEL International and client
CEL International were undertaking front end definition work for a client in the pharmaceuticals industry and asked ECI to provide an independent adviser to facilitate a value engineering study of the project options using ACTIVE principles. The assignment was completed with a total of three workshops. This helped CEL’s client clarify the various project options to achieve best value.
